Random stuff

Published by The Fake Engineer at 7:36 pm under Research, Stocks

I won’t be able to blog for the next few days so there are some things I would like to say.
Research
I have a paper deadline on January 5th. The paper is 90% done if the measurement results are not included. All I need to do between now and the middle of December when I fly [...]

Published by The Fake Engineer at 8:47 pm under Research

Cast: Me and two other grad students
Setting: Dinner
Me: [Grad student #1], did I ever tell [Grad student #2] about the impedance matching joke?
GS1: No.
Me: Okay. Do you know what not to say to a girl?
GS2: What?
Me: “Hey, let’s go do some complex conjugate impedance matching.”
GS2: She wouldn’t understand it anyway.
Me: But you get the joke, [...]

No? Really?

Published by The Fake Engineer at 9:07 pm under Stocks

I just had a friend e-mail me.
Take a look at what is said about the Fed in this article!
The Fed has the ability to create money out of thin air.
Fed officials are not paid with money appropriated by Congress.
The Fed “kind of sits out there – not in the executive branch, not in the legislative [...]

The wonders of coffee

Published by The Fake Engineer at 12:45 am under Research

I am not a coffee drinker. I think it is financially irresponsible to blow money on coffee in a coffee shop every single day. People who are regular coffee drinkers should go make their own coffee and also get more sleep.
However, over the last two weeks my perception of the value of coffee has changed. [...]

Wow it all came back

Published by The Fake Engineer at 1:59 am under Stupid Stuff

A week ago, I blogged about playing poker. I went from $3,000 fake chips to $102,000 fake chips and then I pissed it all away.
Guess what? All of it came back in a single day. I now have $120,000 chips.
My mother is going to kill me when she reads this.

You know that feeling when you flush money down the toilet?

Published by The Fake Engineer at 11:35 pm under Stupid Stuff

That’s how I feel now.
$600 down the drain on a notebook.
It just had to be done. The itch was too great and I just had to scratch. I saw value in what I was getting for $600 so I went for it.
I was really itching to spend up to $950, but I figured that the [...]

Day trading and proposal writing update

Published by The Fake Engineer at 4:08 pm under Research, Stocks

Day trading update
It has been two weeks or ten trading days since I started day trading. So far I’ve netted -1.25 points on the ES which comes out to a $62.50 loss, and I’ve also blown $70 on commissions for a total loss of $132.50. Although this result is slightly disappointing and is on the [...]

You know how at the end of every semester everything just goes completely crazy? I remember when I was an undergrad, the crush of class projects and finals in the last few weeks always felt the same each and every time.
However, I’ve noticed that in grad school, the pressure of the last few weeks of [...]
