Charts galore

Published by The Fake Engineer at 10:29 pm under Stocks

I came to the painful realization today that it’s almost August and my advisor wants me to propose in December. I have a little more than four months. One year ago I missed out on the shorting opportunity of a lifetime because I had to prepare for my qual. This year it looks like I [...]

This is madness

Published by The Fake Engineer at 10:44 am under Stocks

I woke up this morning, and for the first time in a week, I am glad I am not short.

The market has not been this high since Election Day/Election Day +1.
I am extremely tempted to short this but I just can’t do it. 1065 is very much on the table. I don’t see how it [...]

No patience

Published by The Fake Engineer at 10:56 pm under Stocks

I said I’d wait for 40 on the TNX before I’d buy long bonds for my retirement account, but I went ahead and bought long bonds today anyway.

Watch it hit 40 next week and watch me kick myself. I just had to buy them though, they were cheap enough.
I know the fundamentals of the bond [...]

Possible turn?

Published by The Fake Engineer at 11:08 pm under Stocks

The last fibnonacci time series date did produce a turn in the market.
According to the same fibonacci time series, tomorrow is a turn date.

Turn or no turn, I’m not playing it. I’ve done enough damage to my trading account such that I am too chicken to do anything. It’s time to sit on hands.

What goes up and what goes down

Published by The Fake Engineer at 10:27 pm under Chicks

Well, I guess you learn something new every day. I had one of the most retarded conversations today…
Dude #1 (in Chinese): You know, I was telling her that if she wanted to get married as soon as possible, she probably should go back to Taiwan because she’d have a better chance there.
Dude #2 (in Chinese): [...]

Itch

Published by The Fake Engineer at 10:59 pm under Stocks

If you read my blog carefully enough, you know that I dumped my Prudent Bear in my retirement account on Thursday. Now I have a little problem: 40% of my retirement account is now in cash. Another 33% is in foreign currencies which is also cash and the last 27% is in inflation protected securities. [...]

I think I have it all figured out

Published by The Fake Engineer at 1:25 am under Stupid Stuff

I cook dinner more often during the winter than in the summer because it’s too cold to go out of my way to a restaurant during the winter. However, I’m starting to do it more often even during the summer. I’ve also decided to make my own lunch. Here’s how my three meals work now…
Breakfast
As [...]

I think I am going to regret covering

Published by The Fake Engineer at 8:23 pm under Stocks

Since I covered my short position, the market can go ahead and crash now. Why? Because I was probably one of the last short sellers to cover. No more short sellers = no more pressure to buy back shares = market dies.
Although I know exactly what happened, I can’t get myself to re-short.
There are four [...]

Okay this is getting bad

Published by The Fake Engineer at 10:21 am under Stocks

I need to draw the line somewhere.
Stop loss on all 200 SDS at $48.74. I felt I could take a lot of pain on this trade, but I need to draw the line somewhere.
If I get stopped out, I’ll be up a big fat 0% in 2009. I said I was willing to put all [...]

Sucks to be a bear

Published by The Fake Engineer at 7:01 pm under Stocks

I still have all 200 shares of SDS. Nothing has changed.
This is starting to get pretty painful. Today I slammed into the 6% rule but I am completely ignoring it. This could turn out very badly. The only reason I am not covering my short position is because I know this is perhaps the very [...]
