Serving two masters

Published by The Fake Engineer at 10:35 pm under Research

Matthew 6:24 says…
No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will hold to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.
If you have a fulltime job and some recruiter contacts you and asks you to defect, you’re not going to tell [...]

Okay that sucked

Published by The Fake Engineer at 1:46 am under Research

I went to the RF lab at 1:30 pm.
I had everything set up by 5:15 pm.
I went out for dinner, came back at 6:15 pm.
6:40 pm: I rammed the side of my chip with probe and busted a control wire. I took a multimeter and measured the resistance of that terminal. It should have been [...]

Second chance

Published by The Fake Engineer at 8:08 pm under Research

I taped out a power amplifier a year ago.
I tested it in October and it turned out that it sucked.
Although it sucked, my circuit, along with my officemates’ circuits which also sucked, was good enough for 3rd place in a design contest.
We knew why it sucked: the MEMS device that we used was not electrically [...]

When you get to my age…

Published by The Fake Engineer at 12:02 am under Chicks

…and you are still single, your parents apply more pressure.
Mom: You know, when your dad was your age, he was already seeing me.
Me: That’s because you guys were stupid.
Mom: What do you mean?
Me: You guys were stupid. You didn’t know what you were doing.
Mom: How would you know? You can’t say that.
Me: I just know. [...]

TLT breakdown?

Published by The Fake Engineer at 10:01 am under Stocks

This morning TLT is under both the 200 MA and the bear channel.

Unfortunately there’s no good trade on this. If you’re wrong about this, it’ll gap against you the next day at the open.
However, if you manage to short it right at the 200 MA only as a day trade, that might not be such [...]

Margin call waived

Published by The Fake Engineer at 10:46 am under Stocks

Yesterday morning my broker e-mailed me and said they managed to waive my Reg T margin call. Unfortunately, the night before I told Vanguard to dump all my VMPXX and Vanguard’s system is too stupid to allow you to change an order. So there goes my VMPXX for nothing.

9th month in a row

Published by The Fake Engineer at 1:32 am under Stocks

Well since I am pretty much locked in VMMXX through the end of the month and since I just got a margin call, I’m done with trading for the month. Since I am not placing any more trades this month, my month is effectively over and it is time to look back.
April 2009 is the [...]

Margin call

Published by The Fake Engineer at 8:18 pm under Stocks

I knew it would be a bad idea to put all of my trading account cash in VMMXX and then go short a whole mess of SPY. I got my first ever margin call from my broker. It was delivered via e-mail.
Due to trades made on 4/20/09, our clearing house has issued a federal regulation [...]

Trade log 4/21/2009

Published by The Fake Engineer at 9:21 am under Stocks

I decided to go with the original trade plan.
Bought back 50 shares of SPY at $82.89.
Will ride the other 50 shares.
UPDATE @ night:
No good man.
I re-shorted 50 SPY at $84.28, then bought back all 100 at $84.93.
In all this, I made a grand total of $68. Waste of time.

Collection of thoughts

Published by The Fake Engineer at 9:40 pm under Class, Stocks

I don’t have any single item to blog about that will make a decent post so I’m lumping them all into one.
1. Here’s another look at the wedge break. Although I am a bit pissed that the market gapped down at the open, I have to be glad that I caught the wedge break.

The break [...]
