Bought 100 TBT at $37.49. I am a little bit peeved that I didn’t pick up TBT at $37.10 when I had the chance. TBT is the UltraShort 20+ Year Treasury ETF.
My thesis for shorting the long bond into the New Year is that long bonds have been bought hard since the middle of November [...]

Sitting tight

Published by The Fake Engineer at 1:41 pm under Stocks

I have blogged at least twice that the following lines from Reminiscences of a Stock Operator have helped me very much…
It never was my thinking that made the big money for me. It always was my sitting. Got that? My sitting tight! It is no trick at all to be right on the market. You [...]

One of the side effects of shorting

Published by The Fake Engineer at 11:59 pm under Stocks

Ever since I started shorting in February/March of 2007, my wallet has been clamped shut. For the entire year of 2008, I managed to squirrel away 25% of my pretax graduate student stipend. That includes health insurance, travel, random crap I buy, various big fat one time expenses, everything. And if it wasn’t for two [...]

That is some bad juju

Crude oil at $35. And what’s up with that cliff dive at 10 am PST right after the market close? (Early close today.)

Yes, you will see lower prices at the pump, but lower gas prices is the result of demand destruction. That is, people ain’t buying gas because they don’t have a job to go [...]

Bought 1 IWM $50 Jan 09 put for $4.20.
I am starting to think that I am going to reget this.

Here comes the onslaught

Published by The Fake Engineer at 12:20 am under Stupid Stuff

I blogged about this a two years ago. Here we go again.
Woman #1: Do you have a girlfriend?
My mother: Oh yeah…
Me: Uh, mom, you mean, oh yeah that’s a good question, not oh yeah he has a girlfriend.
Woman #2: Do you have a girlfriend?
Me: No.
Woman #2: Do you want one?
Me: They’re too expensive.
Woman #2 (gives [...]

Rode 30 TWM from $86.75 to $89.85. I thought about trading a larger lot size, but I decided to play small. Trading small is the only way I can think clearly and not have emotions get in the way.

2 day trades left. I’m done for the day though. Times in the chart are PST.

Buckle Up

Published by The Fake Engineer at 4:06 am under Stupid Stuff

<rant>
I’ve been extremely annoyed by people not wearing their seat belts and I think it is worth a blog post now.
IF YOU REFUSE TO WEAR A SEAT BELT, YOU ARE A FUNKEN IDIOT AND YOU DESERVE TO DIE!
Oftentimes the reason for not wearing a seat belt is that the person is too lazy to buckle [...]

That’s not cool, man

Published by The Fake Engineer at 11:59 pm under Stocks

When stupid stuff like this happens, I understand more clearly why I have a currency hedge.
I am not happy about EUR/USD going up 10% in 10 days. It’s not the Euro strengthening, it’s more that the US dollar is dying.

That is a big stinkin’ move

Published by The Fake Engineer at 9:26 pm under Stocks

A few days ago I blogged about the EUR/USD currency cross. I said it looked like it was making a run at 1.32 and that I am not sure how far the rabbit hole goes. As it turns out, it was a monster move and it is over 1.37 now.

I have a feeling that the [...]
