Dumped all 3 QQQQ March 43 puts for 97 cents. I did it only to cut risk and I was happy to get out of the position with a small profit. Bought 1 a few weeks ago for $1.40, bought 2 yesterday for 64 cents so selling all 3 for 97 cents isn’t bad [...]

Picked up 2 more QQQQ March 43 puts for 64 cents each. Had gotten one contract for $1.40 a few weeks ago. Digging self into hole.
Added 1 VIX March 22.50 call for $2.50.
Edit: It was a VIX 22.50, not a VIX 25.
Update: I want to go over why I decided to buy QQQQ puts and [...]

Bored and Lazy

Bored
Ever since last Wednesday’s design contest deadline which I blogged about here, I haven’t done jack squat for research. It’s not that I don’t want to but because I can’t. I have two chips I need to test:
1. I got one chip back in August and I have not been able to [...]

I picked up a third chunk of TWM at $79.22 which I thought was a bargain. The market had other ideas. TWM traded as low as $76.58.

USD index retesting old low

Published by The Fake Engineer at 8:23 pm under Stocks

Look at it and weep.

The USD index was down 0.99% today. If you compare that how the stock market indices did today…
DJIA up 0.91%
Nasdaq up 0.75%
S&P 500 up 0.69%
Russell 2000 up 0.97%
The stock market was actually down today if you were a foreign investor.

I need to learn to be patient. I had a feeling TWM would go under $80 again but I ignored that feeling.
Bought one chunk of TWM at $82.54.
Bought another chunk of TWM at $81.84.
Closed at $79.50. Rats.
No stop loss, but that’s okay. It seems that it isn’t necessary for TWM as long as you keep [...]

I dumped one chunk of TWM at $83.49.
I dumped another chunk of TWM at $84.99.
(I had gotten 3 chunks of TWM for an average price of $79.33.)
I still have one chunk of TWM that I haven’t sold. I’m keeping for psychological purposes because I feel I need to have a short position on at [...]

I just bought a bear put spread on Research in Motion. RIMM spiked $9 to $107 this morning.
I bought one March 100 put for $2.84
I sold one March 96.625 put for $1.96
Cost basis is the difference between the two, or 88 cents.
Buying this bear put spread on RIMM limits my loss to $88 and [...]

I feel sorry for whoever writes datasheets

Published by The Fake Engineer at 3:46 am under Research

I’m not writing a datasheet, but I just had to create a page that looks like it came from a datasheet. You do not want to know how long creating these plots took me. If I learned something from my internship at Lam Research during the summer after my junior year, it was how [...]
