The monster capacitor bites again

Published by The Fake Engineer at 12:01 am under Research

On my last tapeout, I laid out a 500um x 400um array of MOS capacitors for decoupling purposes. I don’t remember the exact capacitance, but I think it was around 500pF which is insanely large for an on-chip capacitor. I got my chip back a few weeks ago and it’s quite sad that [...]

You sound stupid

Published by The Fake Engineer at 7:44 pm under Research

I met with my advisor for the first time in a month today and overall it went well. But there was one point in time when things looked pretty ugly in the comical sense.
Advisor: You should put a voltage control on this block so that you can run a transient and see what happens, [...]

Deep doodoo – And it ain’t me saying it this time

Published by The Fake Engineer at 11:35 am under Stocks

NEW YORK, Sept 18 (Reuters) – Toll Brothers Inc Chief Executive Robert Toll said on Tuesday the Federal Reserve’s rate cut may signal that the economy is worse than previously thought and likely doesn’t indicate the U.S. housing market has hit bottom.
Earlier Tuesday, the Federal Reserve slashed the key federal funds rate by [...]

When I was 5 years old…

Published by The Fake Engineer at 11:16 pm under Stupid Stuff

When I was 5 years old, I asked my mother some pretty serious questions including the following:
Mommy, how much money do I need to have in order to make $1 in interest every single day?
It just hit me that I have now fulfilled my childhood dream of making $1 in interest every single day.
Man, what [...]

1 USD = 1 CAD

Published by The Fake Engineer at 6:24 pm under Stocks

Pathetic. At one point 1 USD < 1 CAD.

The monetary policy of the United States is an absolute disgrace. All you citizens of this country ought to be pissed now. If you’re not pissed, you should be pissed.

Beat the rush, panic now

Published by The Fake Engineer at 9:54 am under Stocks

I am dumping my intermediate US treasury bonds today and going into cash. All of it. Treasuries had a nice run recently and I am more than happy to take all of it off the table.
Genius Ben Bernanke decided to cut rates by 0.5% on Tuesday, thus debasing the US dollar.
You would think [...]

Say hello to a tax hike

Published by The Fake Engineer at 5:32 pm under Stocks

The Federal Reserve cut the discount window and the federal funds rate by 0.5%.
What net positive effect will this do for our ailing economy?
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!
Any money that the typical American consumer will save by having lower interest rates will be offset by the extra money that needs to be spent on food and gas because [...]

Flirting with perfection

Published by The Fake Engineer at 11:02 pm under Stupid Stuff

8 flag captures to win on Katabatic.
I captured the flag 7 times.
7 captures * 50 points/capture = 350 points
1 kill * 10 points/kill = 10 points
1 flag return * 1 point/10% from base * 10% from base = 1 point
1 flag touch subsequently captured by someone else * 20 points/touch = 20 points
I can’t believe [...]

This week will be very interesting

Published by The Fake Engineer at 10:17 pm under Stocks

Four weeks ago the Fed burned all the put buyers on options expiration day by cutting the discount window by 50 basis points. It is interesting that the Fed picked the best possible time to make the announcement to screw over the bears as much as possible.
Ever since that day, volume has dropped [...]
