Is this real?

Published by The Fake Engineer at 10:32 pm under Stupid Stuff

Did this actually happen, or is it just clever advertising? Any guesses?
Seriously, stuff on YouTube like this one are definitely real:

But the first one is questionable.

I stumbled into the GTA IV trailer today and I noticed that there’s a fairly interesting building.

Stinkin’ Edsger Dijkstra

Published by The Fake Engineer at 11:47 pm under Class

I need to implement Edsger Dijkstra’s stinkin’ algorithm in Java for my research project for my wireless networking class.
This sucks because:
1. I suck at programming.
2. I haven’t programmed anything for a long time so I will be sucking when I program.
3. My favorite programming language is Java but I suck at it.
4. Of all the [...]

Just a matter of time

Published by The Fake Engineer at 9:22 pm under Stocks

The Nasdaq opened higher today after a better than expected Q4 2006 GDP report and lower unemployment claims. However, the Nasdaq quickly sold off and tested the 2400 level. By the end of the day, it managed to break even when compared to the previous close.

What can I say? The Nasdaq is simply falling apart. [...]

Nadsaq turning sour

Published by The Fake Engineer at 6:15 pm under Stocks

Last Wednesday, the market misinterpreted the Fed policy statement and went skyward.
Today, Ben Bernanke testified before the Joint Economic Committee and implied that the market got it all wrong last Wednesday.
As I’ve said last week, the market set itself up for a bigger fall. Let’s go to the charts.

If you’re a bull, you better hope [...]

Shanghai in a rising wedge

Published by The Fake Engineer at 11:52 pm under Stocks

When something is in a rising wedge, it tends to break to the downside because the slope of the lower support line is greater than the slope of the upper resistance line, and therefore the lower support line is less likely to be sustainable. I wouldn’t be surprised in Shanghai corrects to 2300, but given [...]

Spice Monkey Wins Again

Published by The Fake Engineer at 10:23 pm under Class

Spice Monkey’s LNA now meets spec.
Spec:
NF < 4dB
IIP3 > 5dBm
Gain > 20dB
Spice Monkey’s LNA:
NF = 1.48dB
IIP3 = 5.0565dBm
Gain = 20.734dB
Did I do any hand calculations? Heck no. 3 transistors, 3 inductors, 3 capacitors, 1 resistor. I just swept all the variables.
I didn’t spice monkey for the noise figure spec.

The market has lost its mind

Published by The Fake Engineer at 9:45 pm under Stocks

New home sales for February 2007 fell well short of expectations. The market was expecting 995K, turned out to be 848K.

In the last 4 housing crashes, new home sales has gone down an average of 50%. Since the housing bubble is so big this time, don’t be surprised if new home sales fall 75%.
So how [...]

The perfect setup

Published by The Fake Engineer at 11:24 pm under Stocks

The market didn’t really go anywhere today so I’m not going to bother posting another chart. Yes, we did have a nice bounce yesterday, but that in no way means that the correction is over. How can the market go lower if EVERYONE thinks that the market will go lower? If everyone thinks that the [...]

Published by The Fake Engineer at 11:01 pm under Blog Junk

Search for “stuck earplug” on Google and you’ll see that my blog is #12. I pity the person who stumbled into my blog today in this way. Hmm, funny, the IP is from Chicago.
