MARKET MELTDOWN!

Published by The Fake Engineer at 3:46 pm under Stocks

Dumped my BRCM at $35.50.
Dumped my EBAY at $32.90.
Dumped my HITT at $42.60.
Etrade, my broker, must be very happy.
UPDATE: The charts for the indices don’t look pretty.
The only hope left for the bull case is that ironically, the Nasdaq has not broken its support yet.

Meanwhile, the S&P 500 fell through support and there’s no support [...]

Absolutely reckless

Published by The Fake Engineer at 11:20 am under Stocks

Dumped Pep Boys at $16.09.
Picked up AMD at $15.33. Looks like AMD bottomed out.
Who likes my uber unbalanced portfolio?
21.26% AMD
22.87% BRCM
27.18% HITT
21.36% EBAY
7.34% Cash
If the Nasdaq flops, I’m screwed.
UPDATE:
I had to run to class after I made these two trades and I didn’t get a chance to explain them so I’ll explain them now. I [...]

Lazy no more?

Published by The Fake Engineer at 2:24 am under Class, Research, Stocks, Stupid Stuff

I’ve been having it a bit too easy so far this semester. I’m afraid that’s about to end.
1. My Wireless Networks class (yes, the class I said was retarded) has a homework due in two weeks. What’s the big deal? It’s just homework. It seems to be the longest homework I have seen since I [...]

Hair so ugly that I look like Paul Dano

Published by The Fake Engineer at 11:52 pm under Stupid Stuff

Someone says that I look like Paul Dano because I am in desperate need of a haircut.

Not bad.

Lazy way to invest

Published by The Fake Engineer at 4:54 pm under Stocks

A few things happened during the last few weeks that led me to open a Roth IRA account today.
1. A friend told me that he bought FIREX for his Roth IRA. Hmm, grad student with a Roth IRA. Not a bad idea especially when you can’t contribute to a Roth IRA if your income is [...]

Bidding up eBay

Published by The Fake Engineer at 7:22 pm under Stocks

Loaded up on eBay shares at $33.73 after hours. Why did I buy eBay?
First of all, the last 2 years have been awful.

Fundamentally speaking, eBay’s earnings grew from 78 cents per share in 2005 to 79 cents per share in 2006. That’s pretty sucky earnings growth for eBay considering that in 2004 it earned 57 [...]

Why a Masters degree isn’t a bad idea

Published by The Fake Engineer at 9:49 pm under Stocks

Okay, so suppose you get a Masters degree so you’re down $100,000. If you throw $1720/year into a Roth IRA starting at the age of 25 and if you get an annual return of 11% by buying a mix of mutual funds, you will end up with over $1 million by the time you’re 65 [...]

XING got cut

Published by The Fake Engineer at 10:28 am under Stocks

Dumped XING at $19.02 after buying at $17.25 on 2/8. I sold XING because…
1. When I bought it, I felt I’d be lucky if I could sell it for over $19 in a short time frame.
2. XING is highly volatile. It will have massive runups and massive crashes.
3. Based on the charts, it seems that [...]

Color Inversion in The GIMP and MS Paint

Published by The Fake Engineer at 11:43 pm under Stupid Stuff

I was playing around with The GIMP when I noticed that The GIMP and MS Paint do not invert colors the same way.

Test image inverted with MS Paint
The GIMP makes it more colorful, but does it do it right? How does Clinton’s black suit invert to light purple? Why [...]
